Un espace de réflexion sur l’intimité vous est proposé par six finissants de l’École des arts visuels et médiatiques de l’UQAM. À travers leurs démarches foisonnantes, les artistes tentent d’extraire l’intimité de son milieu intérieur afin de le projeter à l’extérieur. Le corps devient véhicule de l’érotisme, du performatif, de la trace ou du deuil. Les artistes cherchent à saisir, délimiter et cartographier l’intime, l’intérieur.
Alice Collombon trace avec le dessin et l’écriture l’expérience spatio-temporelle de son corps en mouvement dans l’environnement, tel un sismographe. Kristofer Dompierre pousse le portrait à ses limites en peinture, ainsi que celles de son propre corps. Son œuvre éprouve la sourde violence du deuil. En installation, pour Sarai Guerra Cruz, cartographier l’intérieur, c’est inévitablement planter des indices subtils sur l’expérience du deuil au quotidien. Le crayon-feutre de Seonjeong Kim explore le doodle de l’inconscient et la fascination pour le trait, dans une ligne narrative aléatoire qui se déploie en traçant les contours de l’émotion. En peinture, Laurence Malette donne à voir des mises en scène du quotidien comme des instantanés, et nous montre le paradoxe dissimulé sous l’ordinaire. Pour Jonathan Sardelis, une nouvelle intimité surgit de corps multiples arrachés de leur identité, unis par la peinture sous forme d’anges messagers.
La galerie POPOP, un nouvel espace locatif à l’édifice Belgo, permet de réunir et de faire rayonner le travail prometteur des artistes de la relève.

CHARTING THE INTERIOR
Group exhibition
Intimacy is the focus of this group exhibition by six students finishing their undergraduate degrees at UQAM’s École des arts visuels et médiatiques. Through their various processes, the artists attempt to extract intimacy from an internal and personal space in order to project it outward. The body becomes the vehicle of erotic or performative expression, leaving traces or mourning loss. The artists try to grasp, define and chart the interiority of intimacy.
In the manner of a seismometer, Alice Collombon draws or marks on paper the spatiotemporal experience of her body while moving through environments. Kristofer Dompierre pushes his portrait paintings to the limits, as he does with his own body. His work explores the muted violence of loss. In her installation, Sarai Guerra Cruz charts interiority so as to inevitably present subtle clues about the experience of mourning in daily life. Seonjeong Kim’s felt pen explores unconscious doodling and her fascination for the line, drawing the outlines of emotions in random narratives. Laurence Malette paints the snapshots of everyday life, and shows us the paradox hidden under the seemingly ordinary. In the paintings of Jonathan Sardelis, a new intimacy surfaces from multiple bodies stripped of their identity, unified as messenger angels on the canvas.
The promising work of this new generation of artists is presented at the POPOP gallery, a new rental space in the Belgo building.
