La Galerie Popop présente Unbound, une exposition solo qui marque le moment où Denise Buisman Pilger a choisi de laisser tomber les conventions et de suivre pleinement son élan créatif. Cette série reflète une année nourrie par la curiosité, la prise de risque et l’expérimentation.

Après son passage du figuratif à l’abstraction, Buisman Pilger adopte une approche plus intuitive. Chaque œuvre se ­ construit par strates d’acrylique, de washi fait main et de crayons de couleur, guidée par un processus qui privilégie l’instinct.

Le washi occupe une place centrale. À partir d’écorce de kozo séchée importée du Japon, l’artiste gratte, fait bouillir, ­ nettoie puis bat les fibres pour créer ses propres feuilles ou les utiliser comme matière picturale.

Unbound rassemble des œuvres sur bois, sur papier et des explorations sculpturales, unifiées par l’ouverture à l’imprévu, à l’émotion et à l’évolution naturelle du travail.

About the exhibition
Galerie Popop presents Unbound, a solo exhibition marking the moment Denise Buisman Pilger set aside ­ convention and followed her creative instincts without restraint. The series reflects a year shaped by curiosity, risk-taking, and ­ experimentation.

After moving from figurative work to abstraction, Buisman Pilger now leans fully into intuition. Each piece builds through layers of acrylic, handmade washi, and colored pencil, guided by a process that lets instinct lead.

Washi sits at the core of the series. Working with dried kozo bark imported from Japan, the artist scrapes, boils, cleans, and pounds the raw fibers to create her own sheets or use the fibers directly as material within the work.

Unbound brings together mixed-media pieces on wood and paper, along with sculptural explorations. What connects the series is a willingness to welcome imperfection, follow emotion, and let each work evolve on its own terms.
